How to put your HTML site online in seconds

  1. Name your homepage index.html

If you have a multi-page site or a folder with CSS, JavaScript and images, make sure the main file is named index.html. If you just have a single HTML file, you can upload it as is or paste the raw HTML code.

  2. Drop your file, folder or ZIP onto ship.page

Drag your .html file (up to 10 MB), folder (roughly 7 MB of files encoded in a 10 MB request) or .zip file (up to 25 MB, 100 files) into the browser uploader. A ZIP with a single top folder is unwrapped automatically.

  3. Share your live HTTPS link or QR code

Your site goes live in seconds on its own subdomain over HTTPS, and the success screen gives you a downloadable PNG QR code. You can publish without an account, or claim the page with a free account (no card) to manage it from a dashboard.

Ranked: the best free hosts for a static HTML site

ship.page is the fastest way to put an HTML site online when you already have the files on your computer and do not want to create an account or set up Git. You drag in an .html file, a folder or a .zip and get a live HTTPS URL in seconds with no bandwidth limits and no ads. Free pages show a small closeable badge, and every page sends a noindex header so search engines stay out while anyone with the link can open it.

If you need a custom domain or want deploys triggered automatically from a Git repository, one of the account-based platforms below will fit better. See our full breakdown of free HTML hosting and best free static hosting for deeper comparisons.

  • 1. ship.page: suits anyone who wants a live link in seconds with zero signup, or developers deploying via curl, MCP or GitHub Actions.
  • 2. Cloudflare Pages: suits large static sites up to 20,000 files that need custom domains and unmetered bandwidth with a Cloudflare account.
  • 3. GitHub Pages: suits open-source documentation and personal portfolios up to 1 GB where the code already lives in a public GitHub repository.
  • 4. Vercel Hobby: suits personal, non-commercial projects deployed from Git that stay under 100 GB of transfer a month.
  • 5. Netlify: suits small test projects that stay well inside the hard cap of 300 monthly credits.

What to watch out for on other free tiers

Commercial use rules and hard shutoffs are the two biggest surprises on major cloud hosts. Both GitHub Pages (on GitHub Free public repositories) and Vercel Hobby forbid commercial, e-commerce or SaaS sites on their free tiers, and Vercel Pro starts at $20 a month.

Netlify uses a credit system on its free plan: you get 300 credits a month, where each production deploy costs 15 credits and each gigabyte of bandwidth costs 20 credits. When those 300 credits run out, there are no top-ups on the free tier and every project on your account is paused and shows Site not available until you upgrade to Personal ($9 a month) or Pro ($20 a month).

Cloudflare Pages gives you a generous free tier with up to 100 custom domains per project at a name.pages.dev address, 500 builds a month and no bandwidth quota. Its Direct Upload dashboard accepts drag-and-drop folders up to 1,000 files of 25 MiB each (or 20,000 files through the wrangler command line), though Cloudflare's documentation now suggests starting new projects on Workers.

What files work on ship.page and how URLs behave

Any static frontend asset works out of the box, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, audio, video, JSON and WebAssembly. Server-side code like PHP, Node.js, Python, databases and WordPress do not run here, so contact forms should point to a third-party form service. A lone PDF, image or video file is not accepted by itself; put it inside a folder or ZIP alongside an index.html file.

File paths are case-sensitive and served as they are without Content-Encoding, so turn off pre-compressed .br or .gz output in your build tool. A file named about.html opens at /about.html, while the clean path /about only works if you upload about/index.html. There is no single-page-app fallback or custom 404 page, so React or Vue apps with client-side routing should use hash routes like #/about.

Tip: If your folder has more than roughly 7 MB of files, compress it into a .zip before uploading so it uses the 25 MB free ZIP limit instead of the 10 MB folder request limit.

When to claim a free account or upgrade to Pro

You can publish without an account, and then claim the upload with a free account (sign in with Google or an email link, no card required) to manage your pages from a dashboard. On the free plan, pages cannot be edited in place; uploading a new version creates a new link.

If you want to update your site and keep the exact same URL, Pro is $4 a month (billed monthly, cancel anytime). Pro pages don't expire while you're on Pro, or you can set a custom expiry starting from 60 seconds. Pro also removes the ship.page badge, adds password protection, raises limits to 100 MB ZIPs (400 MB unpacked) and 10,000 files, and includes up to 5 movable custom subdomains like yourname.ship.place.

Questions

Where can I put my HTML site online for free without creating an account?

You can upload your HTML file, folder or ZIP directly at ship.page with no account and no credit card. Your site goes live in seconds on its own HTTPS subdomain, and the free plan allows single HTML files up to 10 MB and ZIPs up to 25 MB with 100 files.

Can I host a single HTML file without zipping it?

Yes. You can drag a single .html file up to 10 MB straight into the ship.page uploader, or paste your raw HTML into the browser. You only need a folder or ZIP when your page links to separate CSS, JavaScript, image or font files.

How do I update my HTML site after publishing on ship.page?

On the free plan, pages cannot be updated in place, so uploading a revised file gives you a new link. On the $4 a month Pro plan, you can re-upload or edit a page from your dashboard and keep the same link, or move one of your 5 custom .ship.place subdomains to any page.

Does ship.page support custom domains?

No plan on ship.page offers custom domains. Pro ($4 a month) includes up to 5 custom subdomains in the format yourname.ship.place. If you need your own root domain on a free plan, use GitHub Pages or Cloudflare Pages.

Will search engines index my uploaded HTML page?

No. Every page hosted on ship.page is served with a noindex HTTP header and uploads are never listed publicly. Anyone who has your link or scans your QR code can view the site, while search engines leave it out of results.
