How to put a website folder online in seconds

  1. Check that index.html is at the top of your folder

Put your homepage file named index.html inside the folder alongside your CSS, JavaScript, and image subfolders. File paths are case-sensitive, so match the exact uppercase and lowercase letters in your tags.

  2. Zip the folder if it holds more than 7 MB of files

A direct folder upload goes up as one encoded browser request of at most 10 MB (roughly 7 MB of files). If your folder is larger, compress it into a .zip file up to 25 MB on the free plan (100 MB unpacked); ship.page automatically unwraps a ZIP that has a single top folder.

  3. Drag the folder or ZIP onto ship.page

Drop the folder or .zip file into the uploader in your browser with no account and no credit card. You can also click to pick the folder from your computer or paste raw HTML.

  4. Share your live link or QR code

Your site is live in seconds on its own subdomain over HTTPS, and the success screen gives you a QR code with a PNG download. You can publish without an account, or claim the page with a free account (no card) to manage it from a dashboard.

How can I host a website folder for free without an account?

Drag and drop your folder onto ship.page to get a public link right away with no signup. If you prefer to host a ZIP file, compress the folder first so you can upload up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) and 100 files on the free plan. Every upload is served over HTTPS with a noindex header so search engines leave it out, while anyone with the link can open it.

Netlify Drop (app.netlify.com/drop) also lets you drop a folder, ZIP, or single HTML file in the browser without signing in first. However, a site dropped on Netlify without signing in stays behind a temporary password until you claim it with a Netlify account, and Netlify's blog notes that an unclaimed drop expires on its own. Netlify's docs also note that deploys under 50 MB work best and single files over 10 MB may get stuck.

When should I use Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages instead?

If you need a custom domain or have more than 100 files on a free plan, Cloudflare Pages Direct Upload is the better pick. It requires a Cloudflare account, and its free plan gives you 20,000 files per site, 25 MiB per file, 100 custom domains per project, sites at name.pages.dev, 500 builds a month, and no bandwidth quota. Drag and drop in the Cloudflare dashboard takes up to 1,000 files of 25 MiB each (or up to 20,000 files with the wrangler command line), though Cloudflare's docs now suggest starting new projects on Workers.

If you already keep your code on GitHub, GitHub's web upload (Add file, Upload files) takes up to 100 files at a time and 25 MiB per file with no Git installed on your computer. You then turn on GitHub Pages under Settings, Pages by picking a branch, and your site publishes at username.github.io/repository a few minutes later.

Tip: For a quick drag and drop website hosting workflow where visitors do not hit a password screen and you do not need to create an account, start on ship.page.

What files work inside a ship.page folder?

ship.page hosts static files only, which means the browser runs your code directly without a backend server. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, audio, video, WebAssembly, and JSON all work, whether ChatGPT wrote your site or you exported an HTML game. Server code like PHP, Node.js, Python, databases, and WordPress will not run, and contact forms need a third-party form service.

  • index.html at the root of the folder opens as your homepage.
  • A subfolder with its own index.html opens at /folder/, while about.html opens at /about.html.
  • Single-page apps with client-side routing should use hash routes (#/about) because there is no SPA fallback or custom 404 page.
  • Files are served as-is with no Content-Encoding header, so pre-compressed .br or .gz game builds need a JavaScript decompressor or compression turned off.
  • A lone image, PDF, or video is not accepted by itself; put it in your folder alongside an index.html file.

What if I need to update my folder or upload more than 100 files?

On the free plan, you get unlimited uploads, no bandwidth limits, and up to 10 deploys a minute, and you can claim any upload with a free account (sign in with Google or an email link, no card) to manage it from a dashboard. A free page cannot be updated in place; uploading a new folder gives you a new link, and free pages show a small closeable badge.

Pro is $4 a month (billed monthly, cancel anytime) and lets you re-upload or edit a page while keeping the same link. Pro pages don't expire while you're on Pro (or you can pick any expiry from 60 seconds), the badge is removed, and you can add password protection and up to 5 custom subdomains like yourname.ship.place. Pro also raises the limits to ZIPs up to 100 MB (400 MB unpacked), 10,000 files per upload, and 120 deploys a minute.

Questions

How do I host a website folder for free with no signup?

Drag your website folder (or a ZIP of it) onto ship.page in your browser. It publishes your index.html and all linked CSS, JavaScript, and images to a live HTTPS link in seconds with no account and no credit card.

Why should I zip my folder before uploading?

Direct folder uploads on ship.page are sent in a single browser request capped at 10 MB, which fits roughly 7 MB of raw files. If you zip the folder first, the free plan accepts a .zip file up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) and automatically unwraps a single top-level folder.

Can I host a website folder that ChatGPT made?

Yes. Make sure the main file is named index.html and that any CSS, script, or image files are in the same folder with matching case-sensitive paths, then drag the folder onto ship.page. If ChatGPT gave you one file, you can also drop that single .html file (up to 10 MB) or paste the code directly.

Can I host an HTML game folder on ship.page?

Yes, as long as the game is built of static files like HTML, JavaScript, WebAssembly, audio, and images, and fits within 100 files and a 25 MB ZIP (100 MB unpacked) on the free plan, or 10,000 files and a 100 MB ZIP (400 MB unpacked) on Pro. Turn off .br or .gz pre-compression in your export settings or include a JavaScript decompressor, because files are served without Content-Encoding.

Does Netlify Drop let me host a folder without an account?

Netlify Drop lets you drag a folder or ZIP without signing in first, but the uploaded site stays locked behind a temporary password until you claim it with a Netlify account, and unclaimed sites expire on their own. On ship.page, your link is immediately accessible to anyone you share it with without creating an account.

Can I use my own custom domain for my folder?

ship.page does not offer custom domains on any plan, though the $4/month Pro plan includes up to 5 custom subdomains like yourname.ship.place. If you need a custom domain for free, use Cloudflare Pages Direct Upload, which supports up to 100 custom domains per project once you create a Cloudflare account.
