How to turn an HTML file into a live link on ship.page

  1. Prepare your HTML file

Save your page as a single .html file up to 10 MB with its styles and scripts inside it. If your page loads separate CSS, JavaScript, or image files, name the main page index.html and put all the files into one folder or a .zip up to 25 MB.

  2. Drop the file into ship.page

Open ship.page in your browser and drag your .html file, folder, or .zip onto the page, or paste your raw HTML directly. You do not need an account or a credit card to publish.

  3. Copy the link or download the QR code

Your page is live in seconds on its own subdomain over HTTPS. Copy the URL to send in a message, or download the PNG QR code shown on the success screen.

  4. Claim the page later if you want a dashboard

You can publish without an account, or sign in with Google or an email link (no card) to claim the upload and manage it from a dashboard. Upgrading to Pro for $4 a month lets you update the page without changing the link.

Why emailing an HTML attachment fails on phones

When you send an .html file over email, Slack, or text, mobile operating systems often open it inside a plain text viewer or block its JavaScript from running. The recipient sees raw tags or a broken layout instead of your page.

When you share an HTML file by publishing it first, the recipient opens a normal HTTPS web address in their browser. Every script, font, and style runs the way it did on your computer, and search engines ignore the page because ship.page sends a noindex header on every upload.

How does ship.page compare to Netlify Drop and GitHub Pages?

ship.page is built for instant sharing when you just want a working link right now. You drop a single .html file up to 10 MB (or a .zip up to 25 MB, 100 MB unpacked, with up to 100 files) and get an open HTTPS link in seconds without signing in. You can publish without an account, or claim the page with a free account (no card) to manage it from a dashboard.

Netlify Drop (app.netlify.com/drop) also accepts a single HTML file, folder, or ZIP without signing in, and its docs note that deploys under 50 MB work best while single files over 10 MB may get stuck. However, a site dropped without signing in stays behind a temporary password until you claim it with a Netlify account, and Netlify's blog notes that an unclaimed drop expires on its own.

GitHub Pages is the better pick when you need a custom domain or a site up to 1 GB and do not mind setting up a repository. It is free for public repositories on GitHub Free (with a 100 GB monthly soft bandwidth limit and 10 builds an hour, for non-commercial sites). Without Git installed, you can use Add file and Upload files in the web interface to upload up to 100 files at up to 25 MiB each, then turn on Pages under Settings to publish at username.github.io/repository a few minutes later.

  • Pick ship.page when you want a live link in seconds with no signup and no visitor password.
  • Pick Netlify Drop if you already use a Netlify account and plan to claim the upload right away.
  • Pick GitHub Pages when you need a custom domain or want to keep your code in a public Git repository.

What if my HTML file uses local images, CSS, or PDFs?

If your HTML file links to external images or stylesheets hosted on the web, a single .html upload works on its own. If it references files on your computer, rename your main file index.html, put it in a folder alongside its images, CSS, JavaScript, fonts, audio, video, or JSON, and upload the folder or a .zip.

Folder uploads go up as one request of at most 10 MB with the files encoded inside it (roughly 7 MB of files), so bigger folders should be zipped first. Remember that file paths are case-sensitive, so an image saved as Logo.png will not load if your HTML asks for logo.png. If you only want to host a single HTML page with everything inline, a lone .html file up to 10 MB is all you need.

Tip: A lone PDF, image, or video file is not accepted by itself; put it in a folder or ZIP with an index.html file to publish it.

When do you need the $4 a month Pro plan?

The free plan is free forever with unlimited uploads and no bandwidth limits, which covers most people who need an HTML to link tool. A free page cannot be updated in place, so uploading a new version gives you a new link, and free pages show a small Hosted on ship.page badge that visitors can close.

Pro costs $4 a month (monthly billing, cancel anytime, no yearly plan). Pro pages don't expire while you're on Pro (or let you pick any expiry from 60 seconds), can be updated or edited without changing the link, support password protection, remove the badge, and raise limits to 100 MB ZIPs (400 MB unpacked), 10,000 files per upload, and 120 deploys a minute. Pro also includes up to 5 custom subdomains like yourname.ship.place that you can point at any of your pages.

Questions

How do I share an HTML file with someone without them downloading it?

Upload the .html file to ship.page and send the HTTPS link it gives you. The recipient clicks the link and views the rendered web page in their browser with no download and no signup on either side.

What is the maximum size for a single HTML file on ship.page?

A single HTML file can be up to 10 MB on every plan, including the free plan. If you bundle extra assets into a ZIP, the free plan accepts ZIPs up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) with up to 100 files, and the Pro plan accepts ZIPs up to 100 MB (400 MB unpacked) with up to 10,000 files.

Can I update my HTML file later and keep the same link?

On the free plan, a page cannot be updated in place; uploading a revised file creates a new link. On the $4 a month Pro plan, you can re-upload or edit a page and keep the exact same URL, and Pro pages don't expire while you're on Pro.

Will search engines index the HTML file I upload?

No. Every page uploaded to ship.page is served with a noindex header so search engines leave it out, and ship.page does not list uploads anywhere public. Anyone who has the link can open it, and Pro users can add password protection.

Why does Netlify Drop ask visitors for a password when I drop an HTML file?

When you drop an HTML file, folder, or ZIP on Netlify Drop without signing in, Netlify places the site behind a temporary password until you claim it with a Netlify account. On ship.page, you can publish without an account and your link opens directly for visitors with no password.

Does my single HTML file need to be named index.html?

When you upload a single .html file by itself, it does not matter what it is named. When you upload a folder or a ZIP containing multiple files, the main homepage must be named index.html.
