NETLIFY DROP PASSWORD: 25 MB ZIPS, 100 FILES

Why is my Netlify Drop site asking for a password?

Netlify locks any site dropped without signing in behind a temporary password until you claim it with an account, and newer credit-based teams with private by default keep it private even after you claim it. To get an open link for free with no signup, drop your HTML file (up to 10 MB), folder or ZIP (up to 25 MB, 100 MB unpacked, 100 files) on ship.page.

How to get a public link without a password prompt

  1. Prepare your HTML file, ZIP or folder

Put your homepage in index.html inside your folder or ZIP, or keep a single self-contained .html file under 10 MB. Free uploads on ship.page accept ZIPs up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) and up to 100 files.

  2. Drop it onto ship.page with no account

Drag your folder, .zip file or .html file into the browser uploader, or paste your HTML directly. You do not need to sign in or enter a credit card.

  3. Share the live HTTPS link or QR code

Your site is live in seconds on its own subdomain with no password screen in front of it. Copy the URL or download the PNG QR code from the success screen and send it to anyone.

  4. Claim or upgrade only if you want a password

Publish without an account, or claim the page with a free account (no card) to manage it from a dashboard. If you actually want a password or need to update the same link, Pro is $4 a month.

Why does Netlify Drop put a temporary password on my site?

Netlify Drop (at app.netlify.com/drop) lets you drag in a folder, ZIP or single HTML file with no account needed to start. However, any site dropped without signing in stays behind a temporary password until you claim it with a Netlify account, and Netlify's blog notes that an unclaimed drop expires on its own.

Without signing in, Netlify publishes your files as-is with no build step, and its docs note that deploys under 50 MB work best while single files over 10 MB may get stuck. Until you create or log into a Netlify account to claim the upload, visitors cannot view the link without that temporary password.

Why is my Netlify Drop site still private after I claim it?

If you claimed your upload with a Netlify account and visitors still cannot open it, check your team plan. On Netlify's credit-based plans (Free, Personal and Pro), a team with private by default turned on keeps a claimed Drop project private until you manually make it public.

On Netlify's legacy plans, a Drop project becomes public as soon as you claim it. If you want to compare how both tools handle anonymous uploads, see our Netlify Drop comparison or browse other Netlify Drop alternatives.

How do I share a site with no account and no password screen?

On ship.page, the link is public for anyone you send it to the moment the upload finishes, with no signup and no credit card. Every uploaded page is sent with a noindex header so search engines leave it out, and ship.page does not list uploads anywhere public, so only people with your link can open it.

The free plan is free forever with no ads, unlimited uploads and no bandwidth limits. You can share an HTML file up to 10 MB, a ZIP up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) or a folder with up to 100 files, and you only add a password if you choose to upgrade to Pro for password-protected previews.

  • Static files work out of the box: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, audio, video, WebAssembly and JSON.
  • Folder uploads go up as one request of at most 10 MB (roughly 7 MB of files); zip bigger folders first.
  • A ZIP with a single top folder is unwrapped automatically so index.html becomes your homepage.
  • Pro ($4 a month, cancel anytime) pages don't expire while you're on Pro, can be updated in place, and include up to 5 custom subdomains like yourname.ship.place.

Tip: Keep Netlify Drop when your project is approaches 50 MB on a free plan or when you already want your deploy inside a Netlify team account.

Questions

Why is my Netlify Drop site password protected?

Netlify locks any site you drop at app.netlify.com/drop without signing in behind a temporary password. You have to claim the site with a Netlify account to remove the temporary password, and an unclaimed drop expires on its own.

Why is my Netlify Drop link not public after I signed in?

On Netlify's credit-based plans (Free, Personal, Pro), teams with private by default turned on keep a claimed Drop project private. You must make the project public in your Netlify settings after claiming it, whereas legacy plans make claimed sites public right away.

Does ship.page put a password on free or anonymous uploads?

No. When you upload an HTML file, ZIP or folder to ship.page without an account, the HTTPS link is immediately open to anyone who has it. Password protection is an optional Pro feature for $4 a month.

What are the file size limits on ship.page compared to Netlify Drop?

Netlify's docs say Drop deploys under 50 MB work best and single files over 10 MB may get stuck. On ship.page, the free plan takes a single HTML file up to 10 MB, a ZIP up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) and up to 100 files, while Pro raises the ZIP limit to 100 MB (400 MB unpacked) and 10,000 files.

Can search engines find my public ship.page link?

No. Every uploaded page is served with a noindex header so search engines leave it out, and ship.page does not list uploads anywhere public. Only people you give the link or QR code to can open it.
