Publish a website you made in VS Code
Drag your VS Code project folder, a ZIP or an index.html file onto ship.page to get a live HTTPS link in seconds for free with no signup and no credit card. Your index.html becomes the home page and relative links to CSS, images and JavaScript keep working. The free forever plan takes single HTML files up to 10 MB, ZIPs up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) and 100 files per upload.
A file. A folder. A fresh start.
Your static site, one link away.
Uploading publishes your file. The link is public but unlisted, not password-protected, so leave out secrets and confidential content.

How to put a VS Code website online without Git
Check your home page file name in VS Code
Make sure the main page in your project folder is named index.html in lowercase. File paths are case-sensitive, so style.css in your HTML must match style.css on disk, not Style.css.
Locate the project folder on your computer
Right-click any file in the VS Code Explorer sidebar and choose Reveal in File Explorer on Windows or Reveal in Finder on Mac. If your folder holds more than roughly 7 MB of files, compress it into a .zip file up to 25 MB first.
Drop the folder or ZIP onto ship.page
Drag the project folder, a .zip file or a single .html file into the uploader at the top of this page. You do not need to install an extension, open the terminal or create an account.
Share your live link or QR code
Your site goes live in seconds on its own subdomain over HTTPS, and the success screen gives you a downloadable PNG QR code. You can claim the page later with a free account (no card) and it stays online as long as you keep it.

| Netlify Drop | Yes (under 50 MB works best) | Yes (under 50 MB works best) | Password wall until claimed with account |

| GitHub web upload | Yes (up to 100 files at a time) | No (unpack first) | Yes (GitHub account) |
How do CSS, images and extra pages work after you upload
When you use drag-and-drop website hosting on ship.page, the folder structure you see in VS Code stays intact. Your index.html becomes the homepage, and relative paths like css/style.css, images/logo.png or js/app.js work the same way they did in your local preview.
If your project has multiple pages, a file named about.html opens at /about.html. If you want the cleaner /about address without the extension, put that page inside a subfolder as about/index.html. There is no single-page-app fallback and no custom 404 page, so React or Vue builds with client-side routing should use hash routes like #/about.
If you only built a single file with inline styles, you can skip the folder and go straight from HTML to a website by dropping the .html file or pasting the code. A lone image, video or PDF is not accepted on its own; keep it inside your project folder with an index.html.
Tip: Folder uploads travel as one encoded request up to 10 MB (roughly 7 MB of raw files). For bigger projects with audio, video or large images, host a ZIP file instead, which supports up to 25 MB on the free plan.
Other ways to publish a VS Code folder without Git
ship.page is the fastest pick when you want a public link right now without creating an account, because there is no sign-in wall and no password lock on the live URL. If you need a custom domain or a larger file count on a free tier, one of the other browser upload tools below can be a better fit.
- ship.page: takes a folder, .zip or .html file with no signup, up to 100 files and a 25 MB ZIP (100 MB unpacked) on the free forever plan, and gives you a public link and QR code in seconds.
- Netlify Drop (app.netlify.com/drop): takes a folder, ZIP or single HTML file with no account to start (deploys under 50 MB work best and single files over 10 MB may get stuck), but an unclaimed drop sits behind a temporary password and expires on its own until you claim it with a Netlify account.
- Cloudflare Pages Direct Upload: requires a Cloudflare account and lets you drag a folder or ZIP of up to 1,000 files (25 MiB per file) in the dashboard, or 20,000 files via the wrangler CLI, with 100 custom domains per project at name.pages.dev (Cloudflare's docs now suggest starting new projects on Workers).
- GitHub web upload + GitHub Pages: requires a GitHub account, lets you drag up to 100 files at a time (25 MiB per file) under Add file, Upload files with no Git installed, and publishes a few minutes after you pick a branch under Settings, Pages at username.github.io/repository.
What works in a static VS Code project (and what does not)
ship.page serves static files only: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, audio, video, JSON and WebAssembly all run in the browser. It does not run server code such as PHP, Node.js, Python, WordPress or a database. If your contact page has a form, point the form action at a third-party form service.
Files are served as they are with no Content-Encoding header, so if a build tool in VS Code outputs pre-compressed .gz or .br files, turn compression off in your build settings before you convert a ZIP to a website. Every uploaded page also sends a noindex header so search engines do not list it, while anyone with your link can open it.
How to update your site after you edit it in VS Code
You can publish without an account, and you can claim the page with a free account (sign in with Google or an email link, no card) and it stays online as long as you keep it. On the free plan, a page cannot be updated in place; uploading a new version of your folder gives you a new link.
If you want to keep the same URL when you fix a typo in VS Code, Pro is $4 a month (billed monthly, cancel anytime). Pro pages never expire, can be re-uploaded or edited in place without changing the link, and include password protection, ZIPs up to 100 MB (400 MB unpacked), 10,000 files per upload, and up to 5 custom subdomains like yourname.ship.place.
Questions
How do I publish a website I made in VS Code for free?
Drag your VS Code project folder or a ZIP of it onto ship.page. It is free forever with no signup and no credit card, and your index.html goes live on an HTTPS link in seconds along with your CSS, JavaScript and images.
Can I publish a website from VS Code without GitHub or Git?
Yes. You do not need Git, a GitHub account or the VS Code terminal. Open your project folder in Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder and drop the folder or a ZIP file straight into the browser on ship.page.
Why are my images or CSS not loading after I upload my folder?
Check two things in VS Code: make sure links are relative (like images/pic.jpg, not C:/Users/you/Desktop/pic.jpg) and check that uppercase and lowercase letters match the actual file names. File paths on ship.page are case-sensitive.
What is the size limit for uploading a VS Code project?
On the free plan, a single HTML file can be up to 10 MB, a ZIP can be up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked), and each upload can hold up to 100 files. Dragging an unzipped folder is capped at a 10 MB request (roughly 7 MB of files), so zip larger folders first.
How do I update my website after making changes in VS Code?
On the free plan, drop your updated folder onto ship.page to get a new link. On the $4 a month Pro plan, you can re-upload your folder or edit the page from your dashboard and keep the exact same URL.
Can I use a custom domain with my VS Code website?
ship.page does not offer custom domains on any plan; Pro includes up to 5 custom subdomains like yourname.ship.place. If you need your own custom domain for free, use Cloudflare Pages Direct Upload or GitHub Pages instead.
