How to put an HTML site online for free
Name your homepage index.html
Put your HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and fonts in one folder with index.html as the entry file. Keep file paths matching the exact upper and lower case of your filenames, because paths are case-sensitive.
Drop the file, folder or ZIP onto ship.page
Drag in a single .html file up to 10 MB, a folder with up to 100 files (around 7 MB of files inside the 10 MB upload request), or a .zip up to 25 MB that unpacks to 100 MB or less. You can also paste raw HTML straight into the browser uploader without making an account.
Share the HTTPS link or download the QR code
Your page is live in seconds on its own subdomain over HTTPS, and the success screen gives you a QR code with a PNG download. You can publish without an account, or claim the page with a free account (sign in with Google or an email link, no card) and it stays online as long as you keep it.

What the ship.page free-forever plan includes
When you just need free HTML hosting that is not a 14-day trial, ship.page's free plan costs nothing and never asks for a credit card. You get unlimited uploads and unmetered bandwidth, up to 10 deploys a minute, and every page is served over HTTPS with a noindex header so search engines stay out unless someone has the link.
The uploader accepts HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, audio, video, WebAssembly and JSON. A lone PDF, image or video file is rejected on its own, so wrap it in a folder or ZIP alongside an index.html file. Free pages display a small "Hosted on ship.page" badge that visitors can close.
- Single .html file: up to 10 MB on every plan
- ZIP upload: up to 25 MB compressed, 100 MB unpacked, 100 files max
- Folder upload: sent in one 10 MB request (roughly 7 MB of files); zip bigger folders first
- Routing: about.html opens at /about.html, while /about needs about/index.html; use hash routes (#/about) for single-page apps
- No server code: PHP, Node.js, Python, databases and WordPress do not run; connect forms to a third-party form service
Tip: Files are served as-is with no Content-Encoding header, so if you upload a WebGL or HTML5 game build, turn off .br or .gz pre-compression or bundle a JavaScript decompressor.
When to pick GitHub Pages, Cloudflare, Netlify or Vercel instead
If you need a custom domain like example.com or automatic Git branch deployments from a repository, another provider in our free static hosting comparison is a better fit because ship.page does not offer custom domains on any plan. Each big host has a real free tier, along with rules worth reading before you commit.
Cloudflare Pages is the strongest alternative when you need custom domains or huge file counts. Its free plan gives you a name.pages.dev address, up to 100 custom domains per project, 500 builds a month and no bandwidth quota; dashboard drag-and-drop takes up to 1,000 files of 25 MiB each, and the wrangler command line raises that to 20,000 files, though Cloudflare's docs now suggest starting new projects on Workers.
- GitHub Pages: free for public repositories on GitHub Free at owner.github.io with custom domains, up to 1 GB per site and a 100 GB monthly soft bandwidth limit, but not allowed for commercial, e-commerce or SaaS businesses
- Netlify Free: gives you a name.netlify.app address and 300 credits a month (15 credits per production deploy, 20 credits per GB of bandwidth); hitting the hard limit pauses every project and shows Site not available until the next month or an upgrade to Personal ($9/mo) or Pro ($20/mo)
- Vercel Hobby: $0 at a vercel.app address with 100 GB of fast data transfer, 1,000,000 CDN requests a month and 100 deployments a day, strictly for personal, non-commercial use (Pro starts at $20/mo)
When you outgrow free: claiming pages and the $4/mo Pro plan
On the free plan, you can publish without an account, and then claim the upload with a free account and it stays online as long as you keep it. A free page cannot be updated in place: uploading a revised file creates a brand-new link.
If you want to keep the same URL when you fix a typo or ship a new build, ship.page Pro is $4 a month, billed monthly with cancel-anytime billing and no yearly lock-in. Pro pages never expire (or you can pick any expiry starting at 60 seconds), and the ship.page badge is removed.
- Update in place: re-upload or edit your page and keep the same link
- Up to 5 custom subdomains: claim yourname.ship.place (3 to 40 characters of a-z, 0-9 and single hyphens) and point it at any page
- Higher limits: ZIPs up to 100 MB (400 MB unpacked), 10,000 files per upload and 120 deploys a minute
- Access control and automation: password protection, plus deploys via curl (POST https://ship.page/deploy), the MCP server at https://ship.page/mcp, or the GitHub Action
Questions
Is ship.page really free forever or is it a free trial?
The free plan is free forever with no trial period, no credit card and no ads. You can upload unlimited times with no bandwidth limits as long as each upload stays within the 10 MB single-file, 25 MB ZIP and 100-file limits.
Do I need to create an account to host an HTML file?
No. You can drag and drop an HTML file, ZIP or folder in your browser and get a live HTTPS link in seconds without signing up. You can claim it later with a free account using Google or an email link, with no credit card, and it stays online as long as you keep it.
Can I host an HTML5 game or a landing page for free?
Yes. Export your game or landing page with an index.html file at the root, zip the folder if it has multiple assets, and upload it. Note that files are served without Content-Encoding, so disable .br or .gz pre-compression in your game engine or include a JavaScript decompressor.
Can I update my free HTML page without changing the link?
Not on the free plan, where every new upload gets a new URL. Updating an existing page in place while keeping the same link, or pointing a custom name.ship.place subdomain at a new upload, is part of the $4 a month Pro plan.
Can I use my own custom domain on ship.page?
No plan on ship.page supports custom domains. Pro includes up to 5 custom subdomains in the format yourname.ship.place, and if you need your own root domain for free, use Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages instead.
Why did my Netlify site stop working on the free plan?
Netlify's free plan runs on a hard cap of 300 credits a month, where each production deploy uses 15 credits and each GB of bandwidth uses 20 credits. When those 300 credits run out, every project in the account is paused and displays Site not available.
