Every free limit side by side

Free static site and HTML hosting compared: GitHub Pages, Netlify Drop, Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, tiiny.host, Neocities and ship.page

GitHub Pages needs a GitHub account and a repository, public on the free plan. Netlify Drop puts a password on your site until you claim it with an account. Cloudflare Pages and Vercel need an account, and tiiny.host caps free uploads at 3 MB. ship.page takes an HTML file up to 10 MB or a ZIP up to 25 MB with no account at all.

Below: every free limit side by side, checked against each host's own docs in October 2026, and who each one is best for. ship.page is our product; where another host is the better pick, we say so.

Which one should you pick?

  • A permanent site on your own domain, free: Cloudflare Pages, or GitHub Pages if a public repository is fine.
  • A file, prototype or AI-made page shared today, with no account: ship.page. Netlify Drop works without an account too, but the link stays password-protected until you claim it.
  • A PDF or Office document as a link: tiiny.host.
  • A Next.js or other framework app: Vercel, on Hobby only if it's non-commercial.
  • A hand-made personal site: Neocities.

The seven hosts, one by one

ship.page

Drop an HTML file (up to 10 MB), a ZIP (up to 25 MB, 100 files, 100 MB unpacked) or a folder, or POST it with one curl, and the link is live in seconds with no account. Free links last 30 days, or 90 after a free claim. Pro ($4 a month) keeps pages with no expiry and adds password protection and named URLs you redeploy in place. Every page is served noindex, so it's built for sharing links, not for ranking in Google, and there are no custom domains.

Netlify Drop

Drag a folder or ZIP onto app.netlify.com/drop and get a netlify.app link in seconds, no Git needed. Without an account, the site sits behind a temporary password until you claim it by logging in or signing up. The free plan runs on 300 credits a month: a production deploy costs 15 and each GB of bandwidth 20, and when they run out every site on the account pauses. Custom domains are free; Personal costs $9 a month and Pro starts at $20.

tiiny.host

Made for turning files into links, PDFs and Office documents included. The free plan needs an account you log into at least every 3 months and allows 1 active project, uploads up to 3 MB (0.5 MB for PDFs), 3 uploads a day and 5,000 visits a month, with a tiiny.host banner on the page. Paid plans start at $5 a month billed yearly; custom domains need Solo at $13 a month.

Cloudflare Pages

Free hosting on a your-project.pages.dev address, with unlimited free requests to static files. You need a Cloudflare account but not Git: the dashboard takes a dragged folder or ZIP of up to 1,000 files at 25 MiB each, and the Wrangler CLI up to 20,000. Git builds get 500 a month on the free plan. Since April 2025 Cloudflare has put its new investment into Workers and its docs now point new projects there, but Pages is still supported.

Vercel

Vercel Drop, launched in June 2026, deploys an HTML file, folder or ZIP by drag and drop without Git, but you need a Vercel account. The free Hobby plan is for non-commercial personal use only and includes 100 GB of data transfer a month and 100 deployments a day, with custom domains. Your current production deployment is never deleted, though older deployments are cleaned up. Pro costs $20 a month per deploying seat, and Vercel's home turf is framework apps like Next.js.

GitHub Pages

Free hosting for anyone with a GitHub account, built from a repository that must be public on GitHub Free. You don't need git itself: the browser uploader takes 100 files at a time, 25 MiB each. A site can be up to 1 GB, with soft limits of 100 GB of bandwidth a month and 10 builds an hour, and changes can take up to 10 minutes to go live. Custom domains with HTTPS are free and GitHub sets no expiry, but its docs rule out using Pages for an online business, e-commerce or SaaS.

Neocities

A free home for hand-made personal sites: 1 GB of storage and 200 GB of bandwidth on a neocities.org subdomain with HTTPS. You need an account, free sites can only host an allowlist of file types, and custom domains need Supporter at $5 a month.

Questions

What is the best free static site hosting in 2026?

It depends on the job. For a permanent site on your own domain: Cloudflare Pages, or GitHub Pages if a public repository is fine. For sharing a file or prototype today without an account: ship.page, or Netlify Drop if you'll sign up to claim it. For PDFs and Office documents: tiiny.host. For a hand-made personal site: Neocities.

Which free hosts work without an account?

Of these seven, ship.page and Netlify Drop. Netlify password-protects an unclaimed drop until you log in or sign up to claim it. A ship.page link is public as soon as the upload finishes. The other five need an account before you can publish anything.

Which free hosts give you a custom domain?

GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages, Netlify and Vercel, all on the free plan. tiiny.host needs Solo ($13 a month, billed yearly), Neocities needs Supporter ($5 a month), and ship.page doesn't offer custom domains; Team ($19 a month) adds a vanity subdomain.

Can I host a business website for free?

Not on GitHub Pages: GitHub's docs say Pages isn't for running an online business, an e-commerce site or commercial SaaS. Vercel's Hobby plan is for non-commercial personal use only. Read the terms of any free plan before you put a shop on it.

Do free static sites expire?

GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages and Neocities set no expiry, and Vercel never deletes your current production deployment. tiiny.host keeps free links while you log in every 3 months, and Netlify pauses every site on the account when the 300 monthly credits run out. ship.page free links last 30 days, or 90 days after a free claim, with no expiry on Pro ($4 a month).
