How to publish an HTML quiz in three steps

  1. Generate or write your index.html quiz

Copy the prompt below into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to generate a complete quiz in one HTML file, or write your own HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Save the file as index.html, or put index.html and any image or audio files into a folder, or a .zip up to 25 MB.

  2. Drop the file or paste the code on ship.page

Drag your .html file, .zip or folder into the uploader on this page, or paste the raw HTML straight from your clipboard. You do not need an account or a credit card.

  3. Share the link or QR code with friends

Your quiz goes live in seconds on its own HTTPS subdomain. Copy the link into a group chat or download the PNG QR code from the success screen so people in the room can scan it on their phones.

Prompt to generate a single-file HTML quiz

Prompt

Build a complete [personality or trivia] quiz about [topic, e.g., 90s movies or which friend are you] as one self-contained index.html file with all CSS and JavaScript inline. Include [number] questions shown one per screen, a progress bar at the top, and mobile-first styling with large tap targets. Calculate the score or personality match in JavaScript inside the browser. At the end, show a result screen with the title of the result, a short description, a 'Copy my result' button that copies a short shareable result text to the clipboard, and a 'Restart quiz' button. Here are my questions, options, and scoring rules: [list questions and answers, or ask the AI to write them].

Paste the generated code into ship.page directly, or save it as index.html and drag it into the uploader.

How does a one-file HTML quiz work?

A browser quiz does not need a database or a backend server. All of your questions, answer choices, point values and result screens live inside one HTML file, and JavaScript calculates the score in the visitor's browser the moment they tap the final answer. Nothing is sent to a server, and since no plan meters bandwidth, you can share the link with as many people as you like.

This setup fits a BuzzFeed-style personality quiz, a birthday trivia game about the guest of honor, a pub trivia practice round, or a self-check study guide. If you are building an interactive classroom activity or a small browser game, see how to share an HTML game or set up a free teacher website.

Do you need to collect everyone's answers?

Be clear about one limit before you pick a tool: ship.page hosts static files only and has no server, so a quiz uploaded here does not record who took it or what they scored unless your page posts the data to a third-party form service. Visitors see their own score on their screen and can copy a short summary to paste into a group chat, which is usually what you want for a personality quiz or friend trivia.

When you are running a graded exam or a trivia night where the host has to read every team's submitted answers, use Google Forms instead. Google Forms is free with a Google Account, has a built-in quiz mode with point values per question, collects responses, and can send them straight to Google Sheets.

Can you add images or sound effects?

A single .html file up to 10 MB can hold hundreds of text questions, inline SVG icons and custom CSS. If your trivia quiz includes photo clues, MP3 audio clips or custom fonts, put your index.html file and those media files together in a folder or a .zip file.

File paths are case-sensitive, so images/clue1.jpg is not the same as Images/Clue1.jpg. You cannot upload a lone image or audio file by itself; it always goes inside a folder or ZIP alongside an index.html homepage. A folder upload is one request of up to 10 MB (roughly 7 MB of files), so zip larger folders first.

Tip: If you generate your quiz with an AI assistant, you can paste the HTML directly or follow our guide to publish a ChatGPT website.

How long does the quiz link stay online, and can you update it?

When you upload without an account, your quiz stays online for 30 days. If you sign in with Google or an email link (still free), you can claim the upload so it stays live for 90 days. Free pages cannot be edited in place: if you fix a typo in question four and upload again, you get a brand-new link, and the page shows a small "Hosted on ship.page" badge that visitors can close.

If you already sent the link to your friends and need to fix a question without changing the URL, check our pricing for the Pro plan at $4 a month. Pro lets you re-upload or edit a page and keep the same link, removes the badge, adds optional password protection and lets links stay up forever (or expire in as little as 60 seconds).

Questions

How do I make a personality quiz website for free without signing up?

Ask ChatGPT or Claude to generate a single-file HTML personality quiz with inline CSS and JavaScript, then paste the HTML or drop the .html file onto ship.page. You get a live HTTPS link and a downloadable PNG QR code in seconds with no account and no credit card, and the link stays online for 30 days.

Can I see the answers my friends pick on a ship.page quiz?

No. A quiz on ship.page runs entirely in each visitor's browser and nothing is saved on a server unless you connect a third-party form service. If you need to collect and grade everyone's answers in a spreadsheet, use Google Forms, which is free with a Google Account and sends responses to Google Sheets.

How big can my HTML quiz file or ZIP be on the free plan?

A single HTML file can be up to 10 MB on every plan. If your quiz includes images or audio inside a ZIP, the free plan accepts ZIPs up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) with up to 100 files per upload, and up to 10 deploys a minute.

Can I fix a typo in my quiz without changing the link?

On the free plan, pages cannot be updated in place, so uploading a fixed file creates a new link. With Pro ($4 a month, billed monthly and cancel anytime), you can re-upload or edit your quiz and keep the exact same URL.

Will my birthday or friend-group quiz show up on Google?

No. Every page uploaded to ship.page is served with a noindex header so search engines leave it out, and ship.page does not list uploads anywhere public. Only people who have your link can open the quiz, and Pro ($4 a month) lets you add a password.

Can I use my own custom domain for my quiz website?

No plan offers custom domains. Every upload gets its own HTTPS subdomain on ship.page, and the Team plan ($19 a month) includes a vanity subdomain.
