How to get your code out of Gemini Canvas and onto a live link

  1. Ask Gemini for a single-file HTML page in Canvas

Sign in to Gemini Apps and open your project in Canvas. If your project is still in pieces, ask Gemini to put the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript into one complete HTML file so it can run outside Gemini.

  2. Open Code view and check for errors

Click the Code button at the top right of the Canvas panel to see the source code. Click Show console to check for errors and logs from the preview before you copy.

  3. Copy the code from Canvas

Select all the code in the Code view or open Share & export and click Copy contents. If you prefer working with a file, paste the code into a plain text editor on your computer and save it as index.html.

  4. Paste or drop the code into ship.page

Open ship.page, paste your HTML directly into the browser uploader, or drag in your .html file, folder, or .zip archive. You get a live HTTPS subdomain and a downloadable PNG QR code in seconds, with no account and no credit card.

Why does a Gemini share link only open in Gemini?

When you click Share & export > Share in Canvas, Gemini creates a public g.co/gemini/share link. That link only opens inside gemini.google.com, and shared Canvas content can't be opened in the Gemini mobile app.

When you want a normal web address that opens directly in any phone or desktop browser without the Gemini wrapper, copy the HTML from Code view and turn that HTML code into a website on ship.page. Every upload gets its own subdomain over HTTPS and a website QR code you can download as a PNG.

Tip: Send the ship.page link or QR code when your visitors are on phones and just want the page to open in their regular mobile browser.

When should you keep your app on the Gemini share link?

Canvas apps can use Gemini-powered features such as text and image generation, share data between users, and save data across sessions. Those features rely on Gemini to work.

ship.page hosts static files only: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, audio, video, WebAssembly, and JSON. If your app depends on Gemini's built-in AI generation or shared multi-user data, keep it on the g.co/gemini/share link, because those parts will not run on a static host. Also keep in mind that on a public Gemini share link, anyone with the link can view and edit data associated with the app.

  • Use the Gemini share link when your app generates text or images through Gemini.
  • Use the Gemini share link when users share data with each other or save data across sessions through Gemini.
  • Use ship.page when your page is self-contained HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that runs in the browser.
  • Use a third-party form service if your static page on ship.page needs a contact form.

How do I add my own images and files?

To include your own images, fonts, or audio alongside your Canvas code, save the code as index.html inside a folder with your other files and drag the folder or a .zip into ship.page.

File paths on ship.page are case-sensitive. A single HTML file can be up to 10 MB, a folder upload sends one request up to 10 MB (roughly 7 MB of files), and a free ZIP can hold up to 100 files and 25 MB (100 MB unpacked). If your app uses client-side routing, use hash routes like #/about, because there is no single-page-app fallback.

Tip: If you also build pages in other assistants, the same workflow works when you publish a ChatGPT website, publish a Claude artifact, or make a website with AI.

How long does the link stay online, and what does Pro add?

An anonymous upload stays live for 30 days at no cost. If you sign in with Google or an email link to claim the upload on a free account, it stays online for 90 days.

Free pages cannot be edited in place; pasting an updated version from Canvas creates a new link, and free pages display a small "Hosted on ship.page" badge that visitors can close. Upgrading to Pro for $4 a month (or Team for $19 a month, which adds a vanity subdomain) lets you keep pages online forever, update the code while keeping the same link, add password protection, and upload ZIPs up to 100 MB with up to 10,000 files. Check pricing for the full breakdown.

  • Every page is served with a noindex header so search engines do not list it.
  • ship.page never lists your uploads anywhere public; only people with your link can open it.
  • No plan meters bandwidth or caps your total number of uploads.

Questions

How do I publish a Gemini Canvas app as a normal website?

Click the Code button at the top right of the Gemini Canvas panel, copy the HTML code, and paste it into ship.page. You get a live HTTPS web address in seconds for free with no signup, and the page stays online for 30 days.

Why does my Gemini share link only open in gemini.google.com?

Gemini's Share & export > Share button creates a g.co/gemini/share link that only opens inside gemini.google.com, and shared Canvas content can't be opened in the Gemini mobile app. To get a link that opens directly in any mobile or desktop browser, copy the code from Code view and host it on ship.page.

How do I get the code out of Gemini Canvas?

Click the Code button at the top right of the Canvas panel to view and select the code, or open Share & export and click Copy contents. You can paste that code straight into ship.page or save it as index.html on your computer.

Will Gemini-powered features and shared data still work on ship.page?

No. Canvas features like Gemini text and image generation, sharing data between users, and saving data across sessions rely on Gemini. Keep those apps on the g.co/gemini/share link, and use ship.page for static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript pages.

Can I update my Gemini Canvas website without changing the link?

On the free plan, each new upload creates a new link. On the $4 a month Pro plan or $19 a month Team plan, you can re-upload or edit your page in place and keep the exact same URL.

Is my uploaded Gemini Canvas page visible on Google search?

No. Every page hosted on ship.page is sent with a noindex header so search engines leave it out, and ship.page does not list uploads anywhere public. Only people who have the link can open it, and Pro users can also add a password.
