How to put your photos on a live gallery link

  1. Export your photos for the web

Export your selects as JPEG or WebP at about 2,000 pixels on the long edge. That keeps most files well under 1 MB so the page opens fast and fits upload limits.

  2. Put the photos in a folder next to index.html

Create a project folder with an index.html file at the root and your images in a subfolder such as photos/01.jpg, photos/02.jpg and so on. Avoid embedding photos inside the HTML as base64, which makes them about a third larger.

  3. Compress the project into a ZIP file

A direct folder upload goes up as one request of at most 10 MB, which fits roughly 7 MB of files. Zipping the folder first gives you up to 25 MB on the free tier and 100 MB on paid plans.

  4. Drop the ZIP on ship.page

Drag your .zip file onto the browser uploader with no account and no credit card. If your ZIP has a single top folder, ship.page unwraps it automatically and makes index.html your homepage.

  5. Share the link or QR code

Your gallery is live in seconds on its own HTTPS subdomain. The success screen also gives you a QR code with a PNG download for print cards or studio wall displays.

Prompt for a single-file HTML photo gallery

Prompt

Write a complete, self-contained index.html for a photography portfolio for [Your Name], a [type of photography, e.g. portrait and editorial] photographer based in [City]. Put all CSS and JavaScript inline in the single file with no external libraries. Display a responsive grid of photos loaded from a local folder (photos/01.jpg through photos/[number, e.g. 24].jpg). Add loading="lazy" to every img tag. When a visitor taps or clicks a photo, open it in a clean full-screen lightbox with next, previous and close controls plus keyboard arrow and Escape support. Include a minimal header with my name, a short About section with [2-3 sentences about your work], and a Contact section showing my email [you@example.com] and Instagram [@handle]. Use a clean, neutral design that lets the photos stand out.

Save the output as index.html, place it next to a photos folder containing your numbered .jpg files, zip them together, and upload the ZIP.

How do I size my photos so they fit the upload limit?

The real limit on a static photo gallery is file weight. Exporting photos at about 2,000 pixels on the long edge as JPEG or WebP keeps most files well under 1 MB while looking sharp on phones and laptops. Photos that are already JPEG or WebP barely shrink inside a ZIP, so your final .zip file will be about the same size as your images folder.

Do the math before you upload. At about 500 KB per photo, a 25 MB free ZIP holds about 50 photos, and a 100 MB Pro ZIP holds about 200. A single upload can hold 100 files on the free tier and 10,000 files on Pro and Team.

  • Keep photos as separate JPEG or WebP files in a folder like photos/ rather than base64 strings inside HTML, which adds about a third to their size.
  • Add loading="lazy" to your img tags so the browser only downloads photos further down the page when the visitor scrolls near them.
  • Match file names and extensions exactly, because file paths on ship.page are case-sensitive (photos/01.jpg is not the same as photos/01.JPG).
  • Zip any gallery over roughly 7 MB of files instead of dragging the raw folder, then use the ZIP uploader to publish it.

Can I send a private online gallery to a photo client?

Every page uploaded to ship.page is served with a noindex header, so search engines leave it out of results, and ship.page never lists uploads anywhere public. Only people who have your link can open the gallery.

When you need stricter privacy for client proofing, the $4 a month Pro plan adds password protection and lets you pick any expiry from 60 seconds upward, or keep the link online forever. Pro also lets you re-upload a gallery and keep the same link when a client asks for retouched swaps, and it removes the small closeable "Hosted on ship.page" badge shown on free pages.

Tip: A lone image file is not accepted by the uploader; always put your photos in a folder or ZIP with an index.html file.

When is another tool a better fit?

ship.page hosts static files only, with no server code, no database, and no custom domains on any plan. If you want a general free portfolio website or an art portfolio website on its own subdomain, or you just need to host a ZIP file of web pages and images, it takes seconds.

If you need a custom domain, built-in print sales, RAW file delivery, or a database-backed client favorites system, a dedicated photography platform or full website builder is the better choice. You can compare plan limits on the pricing page.

Questions

How do I put my photos on a website for free?

Export your photos as JPEG or WebP at about 2,000 pixels on the long edge and place them in a folder next to an index.html file that displays them. Compress the folder into a ZIP of up to 25 MB and drag it onto ship.page to get a live HTTPS link in seconds with no signup.

Can I upload a single JPEG or PNG photo by itself?

No. A lone image, PDF or video file is not accepted by the uploader. Put your photos inside a folder or ZIP that includes an index.html file.

How many photos can I put in one free gallery?

The free plan takes a ZIP up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) and up to 100 files per upload. At about 500 KB per web-sized photo, that fits about 50 photos plus your index.html file.

Why should I zip my gallery folder instead of dragging the folder in?

A direct folder upload goes up as one request of at most 10 MB with the files encoded inside it, which fits roughly 7 MB of files on every plan. Zipping the folder first lets you upload up to 25 MB for free or up to 100 MB on Pro and Team.

How long does a free photography portfolio link stay online?

An unclaimed upload with no account stays online for 30 days. If you sign in with Google or an email link to claim it on a free account, it stays online for 90 days, and Pro ($4 a month) keeps links online forever.

Will my client gallery show up on Google?

No. Every uploaded page is sent with a noindex header so search engines leave it out, and ship.page does not list uploads anywhere public. For extra privacy, the $4 a month Pro plan adds password protection.
