How to host a GDevelop HTML5 export online

Export your GDevelop game as HTML5 and drop the folder or a ZIP (up to 25 MB and 100 files) on ship.page for a free live link, no signup. Or publish in one click to gd.games from the editor with a free GDevelop account. Uploads without an account stay online for 30 days and open over HTTPS with a downloadable QR code.

From GDevelop to a live web link

  1. Open the manual web export in GDevelop

In the GDevelop editor, open File > Export > Publish on Stores > Web. This option exports your project as standard static files instead of sending a build to gd.games.

  2. Export as an HTML5 game to a folder

Choose an empty folder on your computer and click Export as HTML5 Game. GDevelop writes index.html at the root of that folder along with your scripts, audio and sprites.

  3. Zip the folder if it is over roughly 7 MB

Browser folder uploads go up as one encoded request of at most 10 MB (roughly 7 MB of raw files). If your exported game is larger, compress the folder into a .zip file up to 25 MB on the free tier.

  4. Drop the folder or ZIP onto ship.page

Drag your exported folder or .zip file into the box on this page, with no account or credit card required. Your game is live in seconds on its own HTTPS subdomain, complete with a PNG QR code to share with playtesters.

Ways to put a GDevelop game online

Should I use gd.games, itch.io or a manual HTML5 export?

Start with gd.games right inside the editor if you just want a quick link. Open Share > gd.games > Publish game, and GDevelop hosts the build for free in one click.

Use the manual HTML5 export when you need the actual files outside gd.games: sending a clean link to a game portal reviewer, turning in a class project on a school network, or running an unlisted playtest. GDevelop's Share menu separates gd.games (one click), Web (a manual folder export for web gaming platforms), Mobile, Desktop and Facebook Instant Games.

To publish on a web gaming platform like itch.io, zip your manual export, upload it with index.html at the root, and tick This file will be played in the browser. If you only want a direct link with no account setup, drop that same folder or ZIP file onto ship.page.

How does GDevelop's export limit work on the free plan?

GDevelop's free plan limits online services, including how many exports you can make each day. If you hit your daily limit or need more online service access, GDevelop offers paid Silver, Gold, School and Business plans.

Once you run the manual Web export (File > Export > Publish on Stores > Web) and have the HTML5 folder on your disk, the files are plain HTML, JavaScript and assets. You can upload that local folder to free HTML5 game hosting on ship.page as many times as you need without exporting again.

What should you check before uploading a GDevelop folder?

  • Keep index.html in the root: GDevelop puts index.html in the export folder, and ship.page unwraps a single top folder inside a ZIP automatically.
  • Watch the 100-file free limit: GDevelop projects with many sprites and sound effects can pass 100 files, which requires the $4 a month Pro plan (up to 10,000 files and 100 MB ZIPs).
  • Match file name casing: paths on ship.page are case-sensitive, so Player.png and player.png are treated as different files.
  • Unlisted: every page is sent with a noindex header so search engines skip it, and only people with your link can play.
  • Claim or upgrade to keep your link: anonymous links last 30 days, claiming one with a free Google or email-link account keeps it online for 90 days, and Pro keeps the same URL when you upload a new build.

Questions

How do I export a GDevelop game to HTML5?

In GDevelop, click File > Export > Publish on Stores > Web, pick a folder on your computer, and click Export as HTML5 Game. GDevelop writes an index.html file and all required game assets into that folder.

Where can I upload a GDevelop web export for free?

You can drag the exported folder or a ZIP of it onto ship.page for an instant link with no signup, or upload the ZIP to itch.io and tick This file will be played in the browser. You can also publish directly to gd.games from GDevelop's Share menu.

Why did my GDevelop upload hit a file count or size limit?

The free tier on ship.page takes up to 100 files and a 25 MB ZIP (100 MB unpacked), while direct folder drops max out around 7 MB of raw files. Zip your folder first if it is over roughly 7 MB, or upgrade to Pro ($4 a month) for up to 10,000 files and a 100 MB ZIP (400 MB unpacked).

Can I update my GDevelop game and keep the same ship.page link?

On the free plan, each new upload gets a new URL. On the $4 a month Pro plan, you can re-upload a fresh GDevelop export over the existing page and keep the exact same link, plus add password protection for private playtests.

Does GDevelop's free plan limit HTML5 exports?

GDevelop's free plan limits online services, including how many exports you can make each day, with paid Silver, Gold, School and Business plans available. Once an HTML5 export is saved to your computer, you can host that folder as many times as you like.
