How to host a website for free in seconds

Drag an .html file up to 10 MB, a folder, or a ZIP up to 25 MB into ship.page for a free HTTPS link to your static site, no signup. It goes live in seconds and stays online for 30 days, or 90 days with a free account. If your project uses WordPress, PHP, Node.js or Python, you need a server host instead.

How to put a static website on the internet with ship.page

  1. Check your homepage file name

Make sure the main page of your site is named index.html. If you have a single HTML file, you can upload it as is or paste the raw HTML code into ship.page.

  2. Zip folders with more than about 7 MB of files

Folder uploads go up as one request of at most 10 MB, which fits roughly 7 MB of files. If your folder of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images is bigger than that, compress it into a .zip file up to 25 MB (100 MB unpacked) on the free plan.

  3. Drag and drop your files to publish

Drop your .html file, folder or .zip onto ship.page with no account and no credit card. If your ZIP has a single top folder, ship.page unwraps it automatically so index.html sits at the root.

  4. Share your live link or QR code

Your website is live in seconds on its own HTTPS subdomain, and the success screen gives you a downloadable PNG QR code. Claim the upload with Google or an email link to extend it from 30 days to 90 days.

What kind of hosting do I need for my website?

Before you pick a provider, look at the files on your computer. If they are only static files like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images and fonts, they run directly in the visitor's browser and do not need a paid server.

If your site is built with WordPress, PHP, Node.js, Python or a database, it runs server code before showing a page. Static hosts like ship.page do not run server code, so you must use an application host or a PHP host. If you built your site inside a visual website builder, it stays on that builder, so you publish it there.

  • Static files supported on ship.page: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts, audio, video, WebAssembly and JSON.
  • Single-file uploads: a standalone PDF, image or video is not accepted alone, so place it in a folder or ZIP with an index.html file.
  • Contact forms on static sites: connect your HTML form to a third-party form service since there is no backend server.

Tip: Read our guide on how to publish a website if you are exporting files from a code editor or an AI chat tool for the first time.

How do URLs and routing work on a static host?

Static hosts map your folder structure directly to web addresses. On ship.page, file paths are case-sensitive, so linking to Image.png when the file is named image.png will break.

A file saved as about.html opens at /about.html, while a cleaner /about/ address works when you place an index.html file inside an about folder (about/index.html). Because ship.page has no single-page-app fallback and no custom 404 page, React or Vue apps with client-side routing should use hash routes like #/about.

  • No Content-Encoding header: files are served as they are, so pre-compressed .br or .gz builds need a JavaScript decompressor or compression turned off.
  • Developers can automate deploys using one curl command (POST https://ship.page/deploy), the MCP server at https://ship.page/mcp, or the GitHub Action.

When should you use another free host instead of ship.page?

ship.page is built for speed when you want to drag in a folder or host a vibe-coded app without making an account. However, no plan offers custom domains, and free links expire after 30 days (90 days with a free account).

If you need a custom domain or permanent free hosting connected to a Git workflow, another provider is a better fit. Compare the limits below or check our breakdown of the best free static hosting options.

  • Cloudflare Pages: free plan includes 20,000 files per site, 25 MiB per file, 500 builds a month and 100 custom domains per project.
  • GitHub Pages: free for public repositories on GitHub Free, with sites up to 1 GB, soft limits of 100 GB bandwidth a month and 10 builds an hour, and custom domains; not allowed as free hosting for commercial, e-commerce or SaaS businesses.
  • Netlify: Netlify Drop takes a folder, ZIP or HTML file with no account to start; the free plan gives 300 credits (15 credits per production deploy, 20 credits per GB of bandwidth) and the Personal plan is $9 a month.
  • Firebase Hosting: the Spark plan provides 10 GB of storage and 360 MB a day of data transfer at no cost.
  • Render: static sites deploy for free, and Node.js or Python web services get 750 free instance hours a month (spinning down after 15 minutes without traffic).

How much does it cost to keep a ship.page link forever?

On the free tier, pages show a small closable badge and cannot be updated in place; uploading a new version creates a new URL. If you want to update your page at the same link without setting up Git, look at the paid plans on our pricing page, or compare costs in cheapest website hosting.

The Pro plan is $4 a month (billed monthly, cancel anytime, no yearly plan). It removes the badge, lets you keep pages online forever or pick any expiry from 60 seconds, allows re-uploading or editing in place on the same link, adds password protection, and raises limits to 100 MB ZIPs and 10,000 files per upload. The Team plan is $19 a month and adds a vanity subdomain.

Questions

How do I host a website for free without signing up?

Go to ship.page and drag in an HTML file up to 10 MB, a folder, or a ZIP up to 25 MB (up to 100 files total). Your site goes live over HTTPS in seconds with no account or credit card required, and the link stays active for 30 days.

Can I host a WordPress, PHP or Node.js site on ship.page?

No. ship.page only hosts static files such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images. For Node.js or Python apps, Render offers 750 free instance hours a month, and WordPress requires a PHP and database server host.

How long does my free website stay online?

An anonymous upload stays online for 30 days. If you sign in with Google or an email link to claim the upload on a free account, it stays online for 90 days. Upgrading to the $4 a month Pro plan makes your pages permanent.

Can I connect my own custom domain name?

No plan on ship.page supports custom domains; each site is served on its own subdomain (with a vanity subdomain on the $19 a month Team plan). If you need a custom domain on a free plan, use Cloudflare Pages (up to 100 custom domains per project) or GitHub Pages.

How do I update my website after I upload it?

On the free plan, pages cannot be updated in place, so uploading revised files gives you a brand new link. On the $4 a month Pro plan and $19 a month Team plan, you can re-upload or edit your page and keep the exact same URL.

Will my uploaded website show up on Google?

No. Every page hosted on ship.page is served with a noindex header so search engines do not index it, and ship.page never lists uploads publicly. Anyone you give the link or QR code to can open the site.
